Lost opportunities is the only way to describe what happened to the Wolves football team Friday night in Baudette.

The Lady Wolves would definitely like to finish the regular season by winning their final three volleyball matches to give them momentum heading into the playoffs.

It’s been a long two seasons for the Wolves boys’ soccer team that has seen them go winless over that time period.

The small raspberry plant (I can hardly call it a bush, as it’s so small) that I’ve been observing since this spring, here in the deep woods by Ham Lake, has grown from 8-to-10 inches, and it looks as if that is all it plans to do for this season. It lacks much sunshine here. No doubt it would do much better in an open meadow. Yet its habitat is here as well, for it has many cousins about it here or on the forest floor.

Here are highlights from Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer (CO) reports for the week ending Oct. 12.

If you have a hankering to do some fall fishing, don’t overlook crappies. Most of the fall hubbub surrounds walleyes and, to a lesser extent perch, but there are some excellent panfish opportunities available right now.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting applications until Oct. 14 for the position of conservation officer.

You’ll probably be passing out treats to costumed hobgoblins and ghosts in your neighborhood this Halloween night. But be cautious that you’re not tricked by a different kind of trickster looking for a handout, such as your personal information.

Communities can grow themselves by inviting the neighboring businesses to town. That is exactly what happened when the Pine River-Backus (PRB) School District and Cass County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) teamed up to work with Central Lakes College (CLC) in Brainerd.
