Waldo’s Virginia Political BlogrollA totally biased and unreasonable list of blogs that I think you might enjoy reading. HomeAhead of visit, new ad attacks Obama’s ‘second stimulus’ Oct 17 Posted by Pilot on Politics on Pilot on Politics President Barack Obama's political foes have prepared an icy greeting for the commander in chief as he embarks on a three-day bus tour of North Carolina and Virginia this week.Dignity for the 99%… Oct 17 Posted by F.T. Rea on SLANTblog This familiar photo of John Lennon by Bob Gruen has been pressed back into action by yours truly.Sheriff’s debate, School Board debate, or Occupy Harrisonburg, tonight? Oct 17 Posted by Dave Briggman on THE REPUBLITARIAN What are YOU going to do?Op-ed: The Tea Party & the Occupiers Oct 17 Posted by Addy Smith on AltDaily » Politics If Occupy achieves nothing else, it has proven that a group of unwashed, under-employed twenty-somethings can steal the Tea Party’s claim to represent the unrepresented. And more in If You Read the Paper.Anti-Solar Pundits and Politicians Are Wrong: New Report Shows That Solar’s Growing Fast! Oct 17 Posted by lowkell on Blue Virginia - Front Page Cross posted from Scaling GreenIf the latest job numbers from The Solar Foundation's (TSF) National Solar Jobs Census 2011 are any indication, the bloviating by anti-solar jobs pundits and politicians is...well...really wrong. Unhinged from reality wrong.Unlike self-appointed clean energy experts, such as Rush Limbaugh and the Wall Street Journal's Stephen Moore, TSF Executive Director Andrea Luecke is actually an expert on such things. At TSF (a Tigercomm client), she authors the Solar Census and leads work on two U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grants: Solar America Communities and Solar Instructor Training Network. And, she used to run the City of Milwaukee's U.S. DOE Solar America Cities program.Luecke stopped by the Scaling Green Communicating Energy lecture series to talk about the Census, a follow-up to the 2010 census. Together, the two years' of data show meaningful trend lines that cannot be ignored.Among them is the fact that the U.S. solar industry has grown 10 times faster than the national economy as a whole over the last 12 months, in the middle of the worst economy since the Great Depression. What about the fossil fuels that underwrite many anti-solar pundits and politicians? Those sectors saw a net job loss of two percent.I guess the "hate renewable energy jobs" crowd that has been using Solyndra to run down other clean energy companies [see here and here have to re-cork the champagne. Consider other Census findings: There are more than 100,000 solar jobs in all 50 states.Among the top 10 states experiencing solar job growth, California had the highest at 25,575. Colorado, Arizona, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida, Texas, Oregon, New Jersey and Massachusetts make up the remainder of the top 10.The growing list of jobs includes installation, manufacturing and also areas such as sales and distribution, which are actually the fastest growing (companies like Sungevity (a client of Tigercomm's and a TSF board member), SolarCity, and SunRun that provide no-money down solar leases are great examples of this specific type of job growth).Over the next 12 months, almost 50% of solar firms expect to add jobs. So what accounts for the differences between the top 10 states and the remaining 40? No surprise there. As Luecke pointed out, the states with the most robust solar job industries and job growth rates had made the policy investment to get them. The top 10 states support increased production of energy from renewable sources (like solar carve-outs) and provide consumer incentives such as tax credits.According to the Census, the industry could grow by up 24 percent and create 24,000 new jobs by August 2012, but Luecke said this projection can only happen with consistent policies in state markets. With an unemployment rate of nine percent and most employers scaling back hiring, why is it that some in Congress have decided they should oppose a job-producing sector that is, we assert, the energy source with the least amount of government support? Wouldn't it be better to actually support the growth of this industry, rather than try to hurt it?Luecke had other interesting points, to make, including the fossil fuel industry's fuzzy math on their job totals - more on that in future posts. But for now, take a look at the Solar Foundation to read the full Census report. Tags: Barack ObamaThe Life And Times Of Alfonso Nevarez–Part 8 Oct 16 Posted by Wolverine on novatownhall blog EPILOGUE     This project was inspired by the curiosity of one Sterling District voter with regard to the background and political philosophy of a declared candidate for the district seat on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors — a candidate very new to Sterling itself and one who gave only minimal information about his background on his campaign website.  No further information was forthcoming in the local media, on the blogs, or in campaign literature from either political party.  It did appear to the author that the voters of Sterling District were being asked to vote rather much “in the blind.”     As more and more information was collected and since the candidate did not seem to be ready to provide more detail on his own website, it was decided to share this research with other voters in the form of an “unauthorized biography” of Mr. Nevarez.  By definition an “unauthorized biography” is one in which the subject of the biography has no informational or editorial input.  To allow the subject to have such input causes the biography to lose its “unauthorized” status and to lay it open to claims of influence by the subject. Therefore, the reader can be assured that Mr. Nevarez had no personal input into this biographical work, other than the fact that a goodly part of it consists of his own words published elsewhere on the internet.  This is an internet project.  The information presented is, with the exception of comments made by the author and so noted, all in the public sector and available to anyone with the time, desire, and research skills to find it.     The author has concluded that Mr. Nevarez is a dedicated and motivated “progressive” with a strong determination to pursue his personal goals in the political arena.  Nothing found during this research was truly surprising, except for one thing.  On 17 May 2010, Daily Kos published a diary entitled “The AZ Ethnic Studies Ban:HB2281.”  A young Arizona college student named Clay Gibson wrote this well-documented advocacy article which took Arizona state authorities to task for trying to end the “Mexican-American/Raza Studies Program” at Tucson High School.  Mr. Nevarez liked the article and asked Mr. Gibson to repost it at Daily Kos.  A blog technicality kept Mr. Gibson from doing so.  Mr. Nevarez did the reposting himself.     At the very end of the article, between the final paragraph and the bibliography, is a third-person quotation.  I do not know how this quotation was added or included.  I am hoping that Mr. Gibson did the deed and that Mr. Nevarez overlooked it in his haste to repost.  The quote brought to mind a video which surfaced in an Obama campaign office in Texas in 2008 and then disappeared quickly after eyebrows were suddenly raised.  The quote is as follows:                 ”Education is the property of no one, it belongs to the people as a whole.  And if education is not given  to the people, they will have to take it.”   CHE GUEVARA     I find it rather disturbing that a candidate for high office in Loudoun County might be involved with the public posting of a quotation from an individual who is sometimes known under the sobriquet of “The Butcher of La Cabana.”  A personal thing for the author?  Perhaps.  But I spent many years fighting against the spirtual heirs of this man, who held him up as a “revolutionary” icon and then did horrible things to innocent people in the pursuit of their political causes.  I hope this quote in the diary was just an oversight.Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 is based on….Destruction of the Social Security System (Medicare too) Oct 16 Posted by Goldmanusa on Blue Virginia - Front Page by Paul GoldmanHopefully Lowell knows how to copyright this piece because I want all the "smart" people in Washington and the 24/7 Commentariat to have to have to acknowledge Blue Virginia when they get finally learn how to analyze something like Herman Cain's 9-9-9 gizmo.  All the analysis so far misses the basic building block of the GOP front-runner's - he leads in the polls - "new" idea: it is based on Rick Perry's old idea that we dismantle the Social Security system as we know it (but even Perry didn't want to eliminate Medicare). Cain completely eliminates Social Security. Otherwise, his 9-9-9 plan suffers a fatal flaw, or should I say another fatal flaw in terms of his tax-cutting claims.  Fact: Tim Kaine and every Democrat running for office should ask their GOP opponent whether they support the GOP front-runners' "Chilean Model" to destroy Social Security and Medicare and why they despise America so much, they want to turn us into Chile! Let's see if the GOP will defend Cain or not; either way, it will give them a lot of trouble right now, given the guy's popularity in the party's base. That's right: The only reason the GOP front-runner can remotely make some of his tax claims is because the 9-9-9 thing eliminates the Payroll Tax, which for many people is onerous right now. They don't see it as an investment, but as a cost. So he eliminates it, thus getting rid of the tax.BUT: If there is no payroll tax, then there is NO SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM.

In addition, the Cain Chilean "plan" doesn't require any employer contribution as in our Social Security system. Instead, it requires working families to contribute the full 10% of each year's mandatory contribution, which is 50% higher than under Social Security. But Mr. Cain says: By allowing workers to put their money into private accounts they control, they will do better. Really? Then why is the average pension paid in the Chilean system 70% LESS than under Social Security, a mere $360 or so a month.

Then why does he want us to emulate Chile?

they were far worse off than they had been promised by the Herman Cains of Chile.
