"We wanted to illustrate New York, so we had the iconic World Trade Center," Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci says of the concept behind the album cover, "and another thing we'd used in the past, starting from ; it's the heart with the fire."
"That’s not me. Everyone knows I hate nu-metal. Can’t stand it. Across the board. It is the worst abomination: it is the new hair metal." Danzig laughs. "So it’s all being dropped by the labels right now… cuz it’s not selling anymore and it’s no coincidence that people are discovering real music- there is a resurgence in metal-related stuff or punk-related stuff because it’s more original and more exciting than this other crap that people are hearing and getting shoved down their throats. So it’s fine for us and it just makes us look better."
"I really feel that, like one of my greatest joys in life is to laugh. Because every time you laugh, you’re kicking the reaper in the fuckin’ nuts. And that’s why we are the only species who laughs, because we realize our mortality. You don’t see elephants walking around – okay, maybe hyenas – but they’re just fake laughing. Coyotes, muskrats? They don’t laugh. I laugh because I know I’m gonna die. The sooner the better."
"I was in this room with a bunch of tubes in my arm and I got the full Keith Richards treatment, man – they gave me one hundred per cent new blood! A complete blood transfusion; so I was in the hospital for a while. When I got out of there, I figured that was a pretty close call, and I just made a promise to, like… fans and friend and foe alike that before I die I’m gonna do this goddamn country record that I’ve been talking about for thirty years!"
"I can’t say that I had a hard time and I never had any disadvantages. It was maybe rare for me as a woman metal singer in the ‘80s, but I was always a die-hard metal fan and a die-hard metalhead. And it was hard enough to fight for your music to be heard. It was never an issue of being a woman, it was 'You’re being a metalhead!' You had to really fight for your music and normal people don’t get it."
