PHOTO JOURNEY
After last year
A small stage was installed on Ridge... Usually Ridge is restricted area and special permissions are required to do such events... HASTPA takes care of all the arrangements for this event with help of Himachal Tourism and various sponsors/partners...
There were some officials from T1 Cycles and the man on the rightmost side is Sushil Tanvar who is closely associated with ASHADEEP NGO.... Here is how Ashadeep is defined -
I think everyone on the stage was given a opportunity to say something about the event and idea behind it... Also it was compulsory to say something good about cycling, in conjunction with tourism in Himachal :)
There was a wonderful performance by India Army band on Shimla-Ridge !!!
Here is a top view of flag-off ceremony of Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal on 1st Oct 2011 !!!
Mr. Mohit Sood, President, HASTPA addressing people on Ridge and thanking various officials for joining in on Flag-Off ceremony...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh
College students lined up to encourage riders during flag-off... but they were lined up at wrong place :) .... Finally all of them were moved near the gate you see behind them...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh
Time for everyone to share gyan abut the event :) ...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh
It seems that some serious discussion is going on between Tourism and Cycling people... Why not, it
Most of the times Organizers don
Mohit Sood presenting a memento and gifts to other guests as well !!...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh
People from various TV channels, Newspapers and magazines were also present... She is Vandana Bhagra, who covered this story for TOI...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh
After all the formal speeches, everyone is set to start the actual action from Shimla Ridge... Ajay Pandit Chhetri (on right, Winner of MTB Himachal 2010 and 2011), Padam Subba (Left of Ajay, Winner of MTB Himachal 2009) and other folks are excited about paddling in Himalayas...Mountain Terrain Biking Himachal Pradesh

Last Stretch of Third Day to reach the most beautiful camping site called Kullu Sarahan - MTB Himachal 2010 : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : During the evening of third day, we were close to most exciting camping site of MTB Himachal 2010.. Kullu Srahan... A lovely place surrounded by snow covered hills.. It was a nice valley at 3200 meters... Clear view to star trails, blue/bright sky, waterfalls etc... Check the photographs of last stretch which was really tough for riders and most of us reached very late in the camp...Don
Starting of MBT Himachal 2010 from Shimla: A Famous Bike Riding Experience in Himalayas : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : During November I published few photographs of MTB Himachal 2010 and here are few photographs of opening ceremony on Ritz (Ridge) ... In case you have missed my last post, please have a look at http://phototravelings.blogspot.com/2010/11/glimpses-of-hercules-mtb-himachal-2010.html : Warming up sessions on Mall Road of Shimla... Its morning of 22nd October when MTB race had to starteveryone was just ensurin the cycles have been assmbled properly and they are fit to start...All participants ready for the beginning ... Race started from the christ church on Ridge Ground in Shimla... First strech was free ride which means that time will not be noted during this stretch and everyone can ride as per his/her own choice without any pressure of reaching early...One of the reporters covering the event on Ridge ground of Shimla... Rider standing on the left is Padam who has come from Nepal with a group of other riders... Padam is the winner of MTB 2008 and 2009... Unfortunately his year he got ingured and was not able to continue the race after third day... Winner of 2010 is also trained by Padam and he was very happy on final day that one of his group won the race..Here is Mr. Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA Shimla... Mr bhardwaj was invited for innogration of MTB Himachal 2010... He flagged off the race from Ridge Ground in Shimla...Madhu Sood was also present during the starting of this event.. Madhu Sood is mayor of Shimla Town...On first day everyone was excited and everyone was in clean dresses :-) There were few riders, who were there for first two days and same was the story with Photographers.. Many of the Photoquest participants came back on third and we were only four who continued the journey till end... People who came back after second day, missed lot of beautiful places/experinces of these 8 days...
aFirst Day rides during MTB Himachal 2010 - A Road journey in Himalayas : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : Hope you have already checked flag-off and some glimpses of MTB Himachal 2010... If not, I would recommend you to check out following two links before checking these photographs of very first day...Here are few more photographs of first day of MTB Himachal 2010 - Shimla Mashobara Shainj (Final Destination for the day)MTB Riders climbing a normal height on good roads on first day...The flagoff from Shimla Ridge was a great improvement over previous year
MTB Riders getting ready for second day Hiking and Biking : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : Hope you have already check other posts on MTB Himachal 2010 which talks about flag-off from Ridge ground, Rides during first day and some glimpses of this event... Today I am going to share some of the photographs of first morning(after camping) of this event... So here are few photographs of second day morning with some details about the activities around the camp side...Although there was sunlight but it was too cold in the morning... Many of us were hesitating to have bath there but finally we got motivated after seeing hot water on other corner of the camping ground... I think you can make a guess that why people are standing behind these tents and nobody in the front... Coz everyone is looking for sunlight and no one can
First Riding stretch on second day of MTB 2010 - Shainj to Chhaila : Posted by VJ SHARMA at www.travellingcamera.com : Hope you have already seen photographs of Flag-Off, First Day Rides, Morning Preparations on Second Day and some glimpses of MTB Himachal 2010... Here are few Photographs of first Stretch between Shainj and Chhaila...Here are few riders who are leading the first stretch which started just after Shainj Village... Unexpectedly weather was clear on second day and everyone was happy and all the riders were excited about the Hike & Bike session after completion of first Stretch at Chhaila Turn... Here is a Photograph clicked on the way from Shainj to Chhaila... Sharing this photograph to just give an idea about the hills and roads we traversed on second day... It doesn
River Crossing before starting Hiking on Second Day of MTB Himachal 2010 : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : After completing first riding stretch on second day, everyone had to cross a river to start trekking with there bikes on the shoulders... Here are few Photographs of that Moment when everyone was crossing the river (Although it was not very tough task as compared to hiking with bike) ..Here comes the first ride who crossed the river... On both the ends, there was very less water but it was deep in the middle... (Rider No 7 of MTB Himachal 2010)One part of the river which was isolated and not much flow of water.. Water was chilling in this river, but still few village boys were swimming there... Many of us were shivering by looking at those folks in chilled water of the river.... Jimsee Focusing on the subjects !!!Jimsee was a participant of PHOTOQUEST and she belongs to Magolia... She won second prize in PHOTOQUEST and check out following link to know more about her.http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimsgene/http://www.herculesmtbhimachal.com/2010/11/30/mtb-photo-quest-2010-results/Here is another Photograph of Jimsee while crossing this river...River crossing was fun and few folks were doing
Mountain Hiking and Biking Stretch on Second Day of MTB Himachal 2010 : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : Hope you have already checked photographs of first two days including River Crsossing... Here are few photographs of mountain climbing after River Crossing.. During this stretch, every rider had to climb few mountains with there bikes and there was no scope of riding them.. So, sometimes they had to keep those on their shoulders and try to drag if possible :) .... check out what all happened during this...It was really hard to trek even without any weight with you and I was wondering how those guys were dragging these cycles on those steep hills.... Sometimes, there was no scope of dragging, and they had to take them on their shoulders...Here is a Photograph of six riders climbing up the mountain with their bikes... Great Spirit !!! I think first climb was of 1.5 kilometers and it was the most difficult ... Solomon finding out creative way of playing on hills... All these things kept him busy and had no time to think about tiring trek :) ... I never saw any signs of tiredness on his face... Always happy and cheerful..In last photographs he was rolling his cycle on arrow and rough paths of the hills and here he has taken it on his head... Another style... I think he had tried ll possible activities with his bike on this hiking session...Jimsee was very happy to see all the natural beauty of the place and she was one of the top appreciators in the group :) Hills, Flowers, Insects, Butterflies, Snow, colors, apple orchards etc...Finally everyone reached a small village on hill top after 1.5 kilometers trek... Here is another enthusiast from Dehradun in Uttrakhand ; Mr. Ranjan Nautiyal... I had few chances to chat with him and liked his company during this time... He was very happy about the event and had a very different/interesting thoughts about the event... will share sometime :) After reaching the peak, we had to move towards the other villages and now we had to walk on the top of the hill. so these not really climbs but there were few uphill stretches on the way... But till now, everyone was very tired.. especially PHOTOQUEST group...There were few natural obstacles on the way but these were nothing for these riders,as they had faces more difficult challenges on day-1 itself... On the way, we crossed Chamroti Village and had a chance to meet the cricket team of this area... There were folks from Matdhar, Chamroti and Shigoti...After 2 Hrs, four of us very hungry and we had nothing to eat... We asked for water on the way and they also offered us very special apples... All of us were very happy and each of us had two apples :) ... God Bless them !!!This whole stretch was naturally very rich but we had not enough time to stay back and give sufficient time to our shots.. Here is one of the clicks I got on the way... But never mind, this trip was for capturing real action of riders and we did that !!There was a small road after 3/4th of the stretch, but it was difficult on ride there... Here Peter is tired but near to final destination...Again a similar Butterfly caught on the way...Some children came towards the road to see all the riders in their village (Matdhar)... We asked them if there is any shop in the village but unfortunately there was nothing there.. We were surprised to imagine that how these people manage to bring their stuff from the nearest market, which was at the distance of 7 kilometers...Trying hard to ride...
Last Stretch on Second Day in MTB Himachal 2010 - To Reach Tani Jubbar : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : Second Day of MTB Himachal 2010 : One of the most tiring days... and here are few photographs of last lap before reaching our camp at Tani Jubber Lake...Here is one photograph of our camp at Tanni Jubber on second day... It was very nice place near Tanni Jubber Lake in Himachal Pradesh...There was a clear veiw of snow capped hills while we hit main road near Tanni Jubber... It ws very cold as we moved on to the main highway from the local route we were following after hike and bike session...We stopped on the main highway for some time... Here is a photograph of some vehicles crossing the road... Chilly winds were blowing during th evenings and this was the time when we realized that tonight is going to be more challenging than last night...Views of snow capped hills from the main highway near Tanni Jubber Lake....MTB Himachal 2010 Riders on national highway 22... Final destination for the day is near now...Another Photographs clicking from moving car... Snow covered hills on other side of the road...After few kilometers, we took a cut upwards and reached this beautiful lake called as Tanni Jubber Lake... Now our camp was just 200 meters from this lake...Temporary bathrooms @ Tanni jubber Lake (Although many of us skipped taking bath that day :) ) .. But many of th riders were regular...Ladla of MTB Himachal :

Till now, we have seen some moments of first two days and here I am going to share some of the main events on third day... These are just the glimpses of Third day and I will be sharing more detailed posts on third day soon...More Adventurous day of MTB Himachal 2010...More Adventurous day of MTB Himachal 2010...On Third day, we had t complete 81 kilometers in three riding sessions and a free ride of 32 kilometers... We started from Tanni Jubber Lake and reached Kullu Sarahan for next camping... All the information has been copied form the poster above :-)There were some volunteers in this event, who used to go early in the morning and install these hoardings on the way for correct directions... Snow Covered hills of Shrikhand Mahadev were visible form the routes we covered on third day... Lovely views and wonderful weather...With the time, we were seeing some amazing views on the hills... Every day height of the hills was increasing..Harsh sunlight during the day was not bothering anyone as the cool breeze was always keeping us fresh...Lot many water bodies on the way...Lot many technical problems, but everyone was fully prepared and ready to help each other... Great Sports Spirit !!!
Morning Photographs of MTB Himachal 2010 at Tanni Jubber Camp on Third Day : Posted by VJ SHARAMA on www.travellingcamera.com Hope you have already checked photographs of THIRD DAY OF MTB HIMACHAL 2010 and here are few more photographs of starting of the day... We started from Tanni Jubber in the morning and this posting have some photographs of early part of the day... Check it out..Peter... I have seen him ready before time (everyday) and used to take sunbath till the time other folks get ready for final march... Most of the folks used to get ready on time, but somehow we never started on time :)Early morning colors of Tanni Jubber Lake in Himachal Pradesh....Everyone is ready and waiting in the main ground.. Lunch and other stuff is being loaded to the trucks on the left and other folks just having sunbath in chilling winters on Himalayas...Longer shadows of Riders and their bikes in early Morning of third day @ Tanni Jubber, Himachal Pradesh..Its the beginning and show for the day has to start yet.. So keep watching this space for other adventurous moments of Third day ...
MTB Riders on highest speed in the downhill stretch parallel to snow covered mountain ranges (On Third day) : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : Hope you have been enjoying this PHOTO JOURNEY through various routes of MTB Himachal 2010... Its 10th post on this great Himalayan event for passionate bike Riders... on third day, I noticed the highest speed of all the riders in a downhill stretch in parallel to snow capped mountain ranges... Check out some of the photographs of this downhill stretch across snow covered hills...First I wanted to give you a feel of the road where we were waiting to catch fast riders of MTB Himachal 2010... Road was situated on a very high hill in parallel to these mountains covered with snow... wonderful place with nice weather and beautiful surroundings...Here comes a group of riders and Cameras are not set to estimate their speed and adjust accordingly... It took time to adjust our cameras to shoot exactly what we wanted to shoot... At least I tried various things with first few riders and was able to identify right place with right settings....They were moving like anything.... Amazing actions, styles n movements...Even folks on the road were moving downwards toward the deep valley to save themselves fom these fast moving riders :) btw he is another Photographer struggling to set himself for shooting this rider...Rider number 41 ... Most of the riders knew each other by their rider numbers and it was difficult to remember the names of everyone but was very easy to know each other by rider nunber because they were sepnding most of the time on the roads crossing each other...Another rider on full speed in the middle of beautiful himalayan mountains in the state of Himachal Pradesh.... Thanks to MTB Himachal 2010...Mr. Ranjan Mandyal playing in air during MTB Himachal 2010... I got a chance to meet some great folks who have passion about bke riding and do lot of other good things in their lives... Ranjan was one of the guy I met and got a chance to understand him better... Hope to meet all of them again :)Here is another MTb rider in style... moving towards the final goal which is near Satluj river near main highway..Amcha rider from Maharshtra Police... a nice photographer as well... He was planning to host an exhibition in Kolkata and also invited us... Hope to see him next year again...Somehow I wanted to share all these photographs in black and white but it would have been unfair to the colorful beauty of surrounding himlayan mountains....Loved this journey and the colors of himalayas...
Beautiful Journey till Baghipul on third day of MTB Himachal 2010 : Posted by VJ SHARAMA on www.travellingcamera.com : On third day, we had lunch at a very beautiful place which was situated on a very high mountain on the way to nirmand... We had a 30 minutes break for lunch and moved for next milestone... Some part of this road was really scary and beautiful as well.. Just have a look at some of the photographs clicked post lunch and this journey completely at baghipul.. but that was not the last destination.. everyone had to ride the bikes for 12 kilometers.. It was free ride but it took a lot of time because of the rough road till Kullu Sarahan...All such seens were very scary but as I have mentioned many times that we learnt over the time that riders are much more efficient & alert as we used to think... They had full control in spite of amazing speed on these roads... Be it a downhill or an uphill, they were simply amazing... Many times it was frustrating for photographers because our van was not able to catch up with their speed...Shadows are telling about the time and now its less than 1/4th of the stretch but most time consuming, especially Baghipul to Sarahan Village... I hope you noticed snow covered hills in the background :)A new road, just created by Patel Contructions Ltd.. There was a huge project going on near the Satluj River... Lovely views from this place and we couldn
