We’re not sure, but let’s call it one, it sounds cooler. Philly Mag’s Victor Fiorillo took a more serious look into the “Mummer Hummer” scandal than we did (which is obvious due to our co-opted use of Mummer Hummer) and actually brings up some pretty interesting points. As PW says, “Either the administration went berserk or someone else—someone identifying himself as ‘Jay’—has hijacked the keys to the movement’s digital kingdom.”The current man-in-charge, “Jay,” is to be quite honest, freaking out over there. He first claimed that, “A national anarchist committee have integrated themselves and attempt to control the peaceful movement through violence.” And then, there’s this gem, “I am standing up for the free people, the people I spoke to last night under my mask [emphasis ours]. The people too scared to say something. That the houses built against City Hall where to be used by everyone to elevate their tents from the rain. Instead in defiance a house was built right against City Hall. However you allowed everyone stuff to get wet. That is something that should have been addressed prior to facilitators giving away the people’s supplies to intentionally cause disruption.”So there’s this whole freakout over there, and a call for a complete overhaul of the structure of the occupation because some people’s stuff got wet? It’s starting to look like Occupy Philly’s days may be numbered.5 Comments »Right Now On Phoodie.info: First Look At Kevin Sbraga’s SbragaTop Chef winner Kevin Sbraga‘s new restaurant, Sbraga, is opening this Saturday. This place hasn’t actually been part of America since before the Volstead Act! Then again, if any city on the East Coast is ripe for revolt, A.C. is putting up the right numbers. From the info section on Occupy Atlantic City‘s Facebook page:24% of Atlantic City’s residents live below the povery level, and we have a state-high unemployment rate of 12.9%. We have 30 banks in Atlantic City and we are the gambling capital of the east coast, bringing in billions in revenue each year for CEOs, yet we don’t even have ONE grocery store in our city, our police officers and nurses are constantly being laid off, and our local government has a history of corruption. We also have the highest crime rate out of all gaming industry cities at 19.7% in 2010, and 11 homicides already reported in 2011.Nevertheless, Occupying Atlantic City would mean… occupying Atlantic City. Now that’s what we call lose-lose.2 Comments »Today In Occupy Philly: All Quiet On The Tent City FrontToday was our first real visit to Occupy Philly since the tent city got set up, and we’re not sure if it’s the weather, or the time of day, or whatever, but it was remarkably quiet down there. The numbers were hard to estimate, since some people may have been inside the tents, but the number outside and walking around and actually … uh … protesting was pretty low. On a walk through we saw a whole bunch of people just lounging a round, a drum circle (duh) and a hula-hooper.Most people brandishing signs seemed to be against the prison system, which may be today’s theme, we’re not exactly sure. The hula-hooper, drum circle, and multitude of tents and beards just kind of felt like what Bonnaroo must feel like (you know, minus the bands and stuff). In fact, many of the people we saw seemed to be more homeless than protestors, but at least they’re getting along. We’re beginning to wonder where it goes from here. With the recent arrests in Boston and the growing numbers in New York, Philadelphia is seemingly lost in the shuffle. We wonder if one person, or a small group of people, or a whole bunch of people will become restless and decide they can do with a few arrests down there if it equals some attention. But as for now, it just seems like a bunch of people just, you know, chillin’.3 Comments » YOUR PHILEBRITY.COM:

Nutter sent the following letter early last week to members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns regarding H.R. 822 National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011:Dear Friend,Right now, Congress is debating a law that would eviscerate the ability of individual states to decide who can carry a hidden, loaded gun. It would force every state to honor concealed carry permits from every other state, no matter how low they set their standards. We need the Obama administration to send a strong signal that it will side with America’s mayors and police chiefs in preserving our ability to protect our local communities. That’s why Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey just launched a public petition on the White House’s “We the People” website asking the Obama administration to weigh in. If our petition gets 25,000 signatures, the administration has guaranteed a response. Our opponents have already gathered thousands of signatures on a petition in favor of this dangerous law, so we must act immediately. Please join Commissioner Ramsey in telling the Obama administration to preserve our states’ rights to decide who can carry hidden, loaded guns.Note: You’ll be asked to create an account on the White House website and confirm your registration via email before you can sign the petition. This law (H.R. 822) would override the standards of individual states and set a new standard at the “lowest common denominator.” Dangerous people, including sex offenders and domestic abusers, could get a permit in one state and then carry hidden, loaded guns nationwide.Commissioner Ramsey has worked in law enforcement for the past 42 years, serving Chicago, Washington, DC, and now my home city of Philadelphia. He knows as well as anyone in law enforcement that H.R. 822 would only make it harder for police to protect their communities — and themselves. Here in Philadelphia, we’ve made too much progress on tackling homicides and gun violence to have it undone by this law. It makes no sense for Washington to make things easier for criminals, and harder for cities that are trying to keep their streets safe. But this isn’t just about my city. This law puts us all at risk, no matter what big city or small town we live in. And that means it’s up to all of us to stand against H.R. 822.Sign Police Commissioner Ramsey’s petition to the Obama administration and help keep hidden, loaded guns out of the hands of criminals. The gun lobby and their allies in Congress think they can bully their reckless bill directly into law, and we won’t notice or fight back. Let’s give them the fight of their lives. Thanks for taking action,Michael A. Nutter Mayor of Philadelphia###To view Police Commissioner Ramsey’s petition on the White House website: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/%21/petition/preserve-our-states-rights-decide-who-can-carry-hidden-loaded-guns/Ll0QPXbV?utm_source=wh.gov&utm_medium=shorturl&utm_campaign=shorturl To view Police Commissioner Ramsey’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security on Tuesday, September 12, 2011: http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/pdf/Ramsey%2009132011.pdf8 Comments »Daily Poll: Occu-Patience View This Pollsurvey software Oh hey, we’re going to try doing a Daily Poll each morning now, wherein we ask you, the people of Philadelphia, random things about your life here, and on Earth. (more…)No Comments »Today In Occupy Philly: A Whole Bunch Of StuffNone of that stuff is actually happening at City Hall however, as it is still pretty quiet down there. Is this what an occupation is? We’re being serious here. We’ve never been occupied before so we just assumed it was full of things, you know, happening. If it really is just a bunch of people sleeping in tents in a public place than it is really hitting that message hard. But we guess the wait-and-see game is the best option here. But while we’re waiting, here are some Occupy links:>>>A whole bunch of UPenn professors co-signed a “Statement of Solidarity,” showing their support for the occupiers. The statement reads, in part, “Only by identifying the complex interconnections between repressive economic, social, and political regimes can social and economic justice prevail in this country and around the globe. We applaud the efforts to keep the protests peaceful and democratic.” So of course the next logical step is… >>>Occupy Penn. The Facebook event for Occupy Penn is for those who would like somewhere to Occupy in between classes without having to take Septa. Oh, and it’s also for those who can’t understand sarcasm. The event’s creator states that, “Strict Hipster dress code and grooming will be enforced” and the rally is for people who are, “just having a bad day” and “want to blame someone else for your life’s problems.” Oh the Ivy League, will you ever learn? >>>Occupy Philly has cost taxpayers $164,000 in police overtime so far. Occupy Wall Street has cost taxpayers $1.9 million in police overtime. So, let’s just chalk this one up to HOLY SHIT $1.9 MILLION?! New York, you lose again. >>>Henry Rollins was at Repo Records where he was asked for his opinion (and we love the guy, but he doesn’t need to be asked, he’ll give it to you anyway) on the Occupy peeps. He said he believes this is “the right struggle,” but is worried about “winter … humans in the cold.” So listen to good old Uncle Henry guys, you’re doing the right thing, but don’t forget to wear layers.10 Comments »Noontime Nuggetz: Dilworth Plaza, Re-ImaginedTransforming Dilworth Plaza from theOLINstudio on Vimeo.Curious about the Dilworth Plaza renovation?
