 If there’s anything hubby hates more, it’s overpriced stuff. And that’s not only because he’s being Chinese (read: kuripot, haha) but because it just doesn’t make sense. I tend to agree. Eleven dollars for chips? Seriously?! And if there’s anything we love more, it’s the quintessential dive. Those hole-in-the-wall restaurants that serve great food for cheap. Okay, so we’re cheapskates that way.So off to Shiok we go. Shiok is a term commonly used in Malaysia and Singapore to describe the excitement of tingling taste buds. I first heard of it from my friend Dino who often brings his two hungry sons there for impromptu food trips. It’s a total dive, I tell you. Right beside a parking lot and a 7-Eleven. Don’t bother dressing fancy. Think shorts, wifebeater tank and flipflops. And don’t look for sophisticated plates. Shiok is known for serving “ordinary/common” dishes done well. It is patronized by office workers out to score a quick, delicious and satisfying meal at reasonable prices. Or young newlyweds who live in Bonifacio Global City and can’t be arsed to venture near the stove.We ordered Crispy Pork, Spicy Pineapple Fish, Steamed Bokchoy with Garlic, two cups of Chicken Rice and two glasses of soda. Indeed the pork lives up to it’s name, there’s some nice crunch on the skin. The fish is not as spicy as you would think, but it’s got a great tang and I just adore cooked pineapples. The portions are decent and won’t get you all bondat, which is always a good thing.  Some say the Hainanese Chicken is delicious as well but for some bizarre reason, hubby and I always just end up ordering our tried and tested dishes every single time. Voila! Our bill totaled to Php 465.00. That’s twenty pesos less than those crazy chips, and a hundred times more filling. I wonder if indeed there are people who’ve been suckered into buying Stacy’s. Good things come out of this delightful wood fire oven: steak, pizza, bread puddings. 

 In case you're wondering, that little bowl on the side contains bacon bits in olive oil, presumably to drizzle over the potatoes and steak. Ayayay. 

I love a spare pizza with mozzarella, prosciutto and arugula.

Bread pudding with Kahlua Creme Anglaise

Verdict: Real beauty goes beyond skin deep.

Cuisine de Maison: Bought the Risotto Milanese. Guy told me to just stuff it in hot water and add freshly grated Parmesan after. 

Got some Bacon Maple cupcakes for Mr. Bacon, aka Mr. So. Bacon bits and brown butter sage cupcake topped with maple buttercream. 

Little Micky found these cupcakes adorable, esp. the pink one with tiny, edible silver balls on the top right.

A kitchen free from animals (meat, seafood and poultry) sounds really sad but I guess to each his own. Maybe I'll try this Vegan brunch next time. 

At first I thought...Macopa! But apparently they're rosettes. So how about some Rose tea? 

Delimondo drizzling oils are good to use on homemade pizza, no?
