Claim your restaurant in Google’s Local Business Center. Once you’ve claimed your business in Google’s Business Places you’ll have a much easier time getting picked up as a Google Favorite Place.  It’s all a tangled web of effectiveness.  A free service, you can create a comprehensive profile in Google Local Business complete with photos, logo, hours of operation, parking and payment methods.

Yelp for Business Owners has become a powerful tool in street recommendations.  Like Google Local Business, claiming your business and setting up a detailed profile is a must.  In fact, Yelp is so strong amongst consumers that if you search for your restaurant your listing should pop up in the top 5 search results.

Make sure your historic or famous restaurant is listed in Wikipedia.  You need to write the listing yourself and submit for approval, so make sure to throw in as much historic or interesting information as possible, noting references and credits throughout. If it’s located in a historic landmark building or scenic location, it might qualify.

Starting with Google, sign up for Google Alerts for your restaurant, your chef, your mixologist, and the business owner. You can also set up Alerts for your competition, chefs, growers, purveyors, food critics, farmers markets and festivals.  The Alerts will be emailed to you periodically during the day.

You can also turn to SocialMention to see all impressions at once in further detail from what Google Alerts provide.

Search for your restaurant name, chef, mixologist or sommelier on Twitter.  Read what your customers say about you and respond if appropriate.
