BBQ Wings, Trash Can Cooking, Drunk Duck & Bright Blue Water

Friday I was unexpectedly invited by one of my WLS peeps to the Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival. I’m not a big fan of bbq, but I love a good festival so I drove over for the event.

The music was eclectic. Everything from jazz to redneck hell. Yeah that last one I’m not sure how much they had to pay to get to perform there.

As far as the bbq, Friday they had mostly chicken hot wings and a few ribs.

Although………..some of the contestant’s had other ideas as to what to cook!

Other contestant’s had other ideas about HOW to cook.

Yes people that’s right. The man is cooking in a TRASH CAN!  What more can I say?

Then there were also various vendors there selling things we never knew we needed, such as the Ghetto Wine Glass.

And to think……..I wasted all that money on my crystal wine glasses! What a waste! Lol.

Now I know some people take there bbq very seriously, but I had no idea it was an international thing. We met a group of contestants that drove all the way over from Germany just to compete!

The highlight of the Atlanta BBQ Festival was meeting our new bff’s from the Dept. of Porks and Rumpreation. Those guys had it goin’ on! Their own mini man cave in a tent kind of thing.

Chair, love seat, coffee table, rug, fan, overhead Halloween lights, bath tub full of beer. And even Howard the Drunk Duck guarding the beer!

Yes I’m afraid Howard the Duck has a drinking problem.

But there is still hope. We’re planning an intervention for my inebriated little buddy and hoping to get him into a 12 step program.

Ok here’s where the bright blue water comes in……

Though I love color,………….and it was a lovely shade of bright blue water……..being a germaphobe forced to use a porta potty is NOT how I planned to spend my time at the Atlanta Bar-B-Q Festival!

How was yours?

Weight Loss Surgery Product Review: Power Crunch Protein Bar

I love doing weight loss surgery product reviews, especially when I find a product as good as the Triple Chocolate  Power Crunch Protein Bar by BNRG.

I judge a protein bar by how close to a candy bar it tastes. The Power Crunch Protein Bars are similar to a Kit Kat bar. They’re light wafers with the creamy chocolate icing on the outside and between the layers.  It tastes about as close as you can get to that candy bar taste!

I love chocolate. And what’s better than chocolate? Protein Chocolate of course!

They do come in other flavors like vanilla creme, peanut butter creme, wild berry creme and even cookies and creme!

Weather your a new weight loss surgery peep, or your several years out from WLS, try getting your protein in with a yummy bariatric friendly Power Crunch!

Atlanta Weight Loss Surgery Meet & Greet

Don’t you just love a good Meet & Greet? Meet new friends and connect with other weight loss surgery peeps you’ve known only through the internet. For those of you that haven’t heard yet, there will be an Atlanta Weight Loss Surgery Meet & Greet on Oct. 8.

The Atlanta WLS Meet & Greet event is FREE. Your only cost will be your food and drinks, and any games you might play at Dave & Busters. We will however be taking up a donation for the WLSFA (Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America). It is tax deductible. Please donate if you can!

The event will start from at Dave & Busters from 3-5:30.

We will then meet for dinner at Pappadeaux’s on Jimmy Carter at 6.

It promises to be an evening of friends, food, fun……………and PROTEIN!

You can RSVP on the Atlanta Weight Loss Surgery Meet & Greet Facebook page. Please do this early so we can have a head count to ensure we have enough SWAG BAGS for all the WLS peeps!

And Diana Mohead-Oates has done this YouTube video to give you more details about the Oct. Atlanta Weight Loss Surgery Meet & Greet event.

Has America Come Together Since The 911 Terror Attacks?

As the 10 year anniversary of 911 approaches, has America come together as we did initially after the terror attacks?

I have never seen our country as united as it was after the 911 terrorist attacks. We changed. The production of flags skyrocketed, and the flags soared, and we were brought together as a nation.

We mourned for those lost and we reached out to others in a way most of us didn’t do previously.

Our lives were forever changed.

I received an email from Scott Heiferman, the founder of MeetUp.com yesterday. For those of you that are not familiar with MeetUp, it is an awesome site established to bring people together in real life, not just online. You sign up for a free membership and enter your zip code and they type of activities or events you are interested in. It will then bring up a list of different MeetUp groups in your area, for everything from blogging, girls night out, sports, to Mommy MeetUps. You join the groups that interest you and then have the opportunity to meet people in your area that you have things in common with.

The email below explained how 911 motivated him to start  the networking site:

So as you see, there were some good things that came out of the horrible events of that day when the terror attacks occurred. We came together initially after the attacks. Can we, as a country, and as individuals continue to come together as a community and bond? What do you think???

Bariatric Foodie Four Cheese Protein Mashed Cauliflower Recipe…..Yum!

One problem I have is that I don’t like most veggies. I do however like cauliflower, and I LOVE cheese! So I was thrilled to find this recipe from Nik of Bariatric Foodie for the four cheese protein mashed cauliflower!

So I made an attempt at cooking. It’s actually a very quick and easy meal! Mine doesn’t look quite as good as Nik’s, but it tastes GREAT!

This is how my Bariatric Foodie four cheese protein mashed cauliflower recipe turned out!

Repeated Weight-Loss Revision Surgery Carries Added Risks

With the increase in weight-loss revision surgery, over the last several years (due to  ineffectiveness and complications of failed Lap-Band and Realize Band in my opinion), comes the added risks of these repeat surgeries according to the Journal Archives of Surgery.

Considering the fact that Repeated Weight-Loss Revision Surgery Carries Added Risks, have you had, or would you have a weight loss surgery revision???

From Jezebel: World’s Heaviest Mom Decides To Start Weight Loss Blog

Just when you thought you heard it all……………a recent Jezebel post states the world’s heaviest Mom, Donna Simpson, who wanted to gain even more weight, has changed her mind and now wants to start a weight loss blog!

*From: Jezebel

So what is your take on this? When I first heard about her trying to gain even more weight I was shocked! The woman obviously has some psychological issues going on there. And while I am happy she has now changed her mind (quite abruptly!) about being the world’s heaviest Mom, and now wants to diet, lose weight and start a weight loss blog, I am still concerned about her from an emotional perspective.

Hurricane Irene WLS Emergency Rations Supply Kit

So Nicole from Bariatric Foodie posted a link for her WLS Emergency Rations Supply Kit since Hurricane Irene was headed in her direction. Although just a cat 1, it can still do a lot of damage and cause wide spread outages. She had some great thoughts of what to stock up on besides doing  the same old tired run to the store for milk and bread. It was followed by some great suggestions on Obesity Help. I’ve even added a few suggestions of my own.

Here are Nicole’s:

Now this is a great addition from an OH’er that experienced cat 5 Hurricane Katrina that hit the Gulf Coast:

Someone else suggested filling the washing machine with ice or water. Another mentioned applesauce, tuna fish, refried beans and non-refrigerated pudding snacks that are sugar-free. And one of the Facebooker’s suggested wine and cheese!

As far as me, of course protein drinks and protein bars, Pepita (pumpkin seeds), cheese, crackers, Hawaiian Punch sugar free packs, G2, Powerade Zero, canned NSA fruit, pistachios, bananas, rotisserie chicken, watermelon and cantaloupe.

So what’s in your Hurricane Irene WLS Emergency Rations Supply Kit???

I’m Expecting!

My youngest is 21 and I’m expecting again!

That’s right………….

I’m adopting.

In just a few weeks I bring home my baby.

He is a precious little shelter rescue.

He’s a Pomeranian and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.

Ok now someone throw me a puppy shower!
