And tomorrow, Friday, October 14th, from 11 am to 3 pm, New Yorkers can hit up Madison Square Park for their free zombie cupcakes as part of this movie promotion. From NewYorkology, which also notes that the cupcakes will be made by CupcakeStop:A pack of zombies will hand out free cupcakes in Madison Square Park on Friday to hype the new season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”(By the way, shouldn’t there be an awesome name for a group of zombies, like a murder of crows?)The zombie cupcake truck will park at the corner of Madison Avenue and 26th Streetfrom 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, a spokeswoman for Time Warner Cable told NewYorkology. When they invaded Texas earlier, the desserts were topped with delicate severed fingers.

The UC Movement for Efficient Privatization jumped on the bake sale bandwagon Wednesday afternoon when its members came out on Sproul Plaza to satirically raise awareness about rising cost of public education.Representatives from the group promised free cupcakes if students signed up for $22,000 student loan applications provided by Citibank.“We believe everyone should be equally ripped off … regardless of race or gender,” said Morgan Wadsworth, philanthropy chair of the group and a graduate of UC Berkeley.Wadsworth said the bake sale was in opposition to a plan discussed by the UC Board of Regents at its last meeting that, if approved, could raise tuition as much as 81 percent over the next four years.

I wanted to bake something different for this post, so I am making plantain cinnamon fudge cake with cream cheese frosting, as both a cupcake and loaf cake. Plantains are one of those items you notice at the grocery store and think ‘is that banana really over ripe’ and ‘why are they still selling these’? THAT’s a plantain. I wanted to make this recipe because plantains are not really popular in North America and I don’t think anyone knows what to really do with them. I wrote a post recently on how to incorporate plantain in a cake, and have now developed a great recipe to share.
