Hello again guys!  I know...two posts in one day.  But today is my birthday and I pampered myself to a day with no chores.

Well, I did do some laundry, but it has yet to be put away and the beds are made because I would otherwise go insane.  But other than that, I took the day off from house work.

I worked on this chair that has been killing me softly.  You see, on my earlier post today, I showed you my first chair redo and even though I was happy with it at the time, it did feel as if something was missing.  Go here if you missed it.

Most of the feedback I received from you was that it did need some sort of back to it.  So I decided

to cover some foam with the same fabric (painter's drop cloth) and leave it plain, yet there was no cohesiveness between the top and the bottom.

Sooo...I decided to paint a small Union Jack on the back to tie it all in,

but I'm still not entirely in love...

Here is the before, and another before, and the after...

I really like the lines and I love what it represents,

I also like how it looks against the dark floor...

and like everything else, when staged with

nice accessories it starts to look much better...

So for now, I am leaving it as it is...until tomorrow when I will probably decide to take the back off and try something different.

What do you think?  Am I getting any closer?  This chair has taken over my day and ruined my good birthday mood...:(  But that's OK because my day starts now; my mom has made a delicious meal and its waiting for me at her house.  Hooray for being able to start over!

Thanks for coming by twice in the same day and listening to my nagging...!

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

much love,

Thank you for calling...fancy a spot of tea?

I hope you are having a great week thus far.  Today, I am excited to show you my very first furniture makeover.  But before we go any further, this entire post must be read with a British accent...are you ready?

I must admit that my procrastination for this project was solely the fact that I don't enjoy doing furniture makeovers, or I least I thought I didn't.  I consider myself a little bit of an artist and as such, I was afraid I would feel restricted by the precise process of refurbishing furniture.

The sanding, filling, priming, etc, etc.

But boy was I wrong.  Not only did the process prove to be very therapeutic, but it was also very rewarding to see it come to fruition.

Nothing says British like a cup of tea and I am loving this sweet little tea set I found at our local thrift store...

I don't know much about collectible china, but I think these are worth more than what I paid, which was $5.99 for the entire set.  There were other pieces which I now regret not bringing home...

I decided to re-upholster the chair with the Union Jack, as it gave me a chance to use paint and it also represents my husband's heritage.

I used DecoArt's fabric medium. You use 2 parts paint with 1 part fabric medium. The medium helps with the blending of the acrylic paint as well as making the paint more pliable and wash proof.

Once I had stapled the fabric onto the chair, I sanded the edges to make it look well loved...

I am still not sure if I will be aging the chair or leaving it as is.  I also have yet to determine if I will close the back or leave it open.  Any preferences and/or suggestions?

And so, there you have it - my first furniture redo - British style.  I hope you like it!

Cheerio'

Lucy

PS. I will be sharing some behind the scene pictures on my facebook page.  Feel free to drop by if you have a minute!

Oh! and today I turn a year older! As much as I hate getting old'er', life is precious ! xo

Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only

God can count the

 number

 of apples in a seed.

 Robert H.Schuller

Do you ever sit and marvel at the beauty of nature?

Its delicate balance and the spectacular views that it brings us season after season fill me with awe.

Like the beautiful apple tree whose blossoms in the spring are nothing but breathtaking; In the summer as birds need a home, they welcome them into their branches while lending shelter from the sun.  In the fall, we gather their harvest of delicious jewel like fruits and in the winter, the lingering fruits provide food for the hungry animals.

If you follow me on Facebook, you might know that the kiddies and I went apple picking last week.

We enjoyed a beautiful fall day while wearing shorts and t-shirts as the weather has been unusually warm for this time of year.

With some of the apples, I wanted to add a little whimsy to our Thanksgiving Day - which we celebrated yesterday here in Canada.

I decided to make a sweet little bunting out of fresh apples.

It not only looks so beautiful, but has such a wonderful scent...

Take a medium eye hook and pierce

into the apple leaving the eye visible.

Take some twine and thread through each hook and tie a single knot.

Once in place, push the eye hook all the way into the apple as shown...

Tie a ribbon to the twine or leave as is and.....

Display and marvel at your own creation...

I found that some of the apples were a little heavy and the hook would not stay in place, so I simply tied the twine right to the stem and then attached them with the ribbon...

I think it looks so tender...

We had a very quiet Thanksgiving since hubby was away on a business trip,

so we will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week.

But I think Thanksgiving should be celebrated every day as God pours his blessings over us with each passing day.

I am so happy that you came and I hope that you enjoyed your time here as well.

Pink font for the month of October
