 การปฏิบัติอิบาดะฮฺที่นอกเหนือจากศาสนกิจที่วาญิบ โดยความสมัครใจของผู้ปฏิบัติ เป็นการเสริมหนุนให้อามัลของบ่าวผู้หนึ่งสมบูรณ์ขึ้นและเป็นเหตุให้อัลลอฮฺ รักบ่าวผู้นั้น เช่นที่ท่านรอซูล ศ็อลลัลลอฮฺ อะลัยฮิ วะสัลลัม ได้กล่าวถึงดำรัสของอัลลอฮฺในหะดีษกุดซีย์บทหนึ่งซึ่งมีความว่า “บ่าวของฉัน หมั่นเข้าใกล้ชิดฉันด้วยการปฏิบัติสิ่งสุนัต จนกระทั่งฉันได้รักเขา” (รายงานโดยอัล-บุคอ รี 6137) ดังนั้น จึงควรที่มุสลิมต้องเอาใจใส่และหมั่นปฏิบัติอามัลต่างๆ ตามแนวทาง(ซุนนะฮฺ)ของท่านรอซูล ศ็อลลัลลอฮฺ อะลัยฮิ วะสัลลัม เพื่อยกระดับตัวเองให้เป็นบ่าวที่ดีของอัลลอฮฺและเป็นที่รักของพระองค์การถือศีลอดหกวันในเดือนเชาวาล เป็นศาสนกิจตามซุนนะฮฺของท่านรอซูล ศ็อลลัลลอฮฺ อะลัยฮิ วะสัลลัม ประการหนึ่ง ไม่ใช่ศาสนกิจภาคบังคับ ทว่าเป็นสิ่งที่ท่านรอซูล ศ็อลลัลลอฮฺ อะลัยฮิ วะสัลลัม ได้ส่งเสริมให้ประชาชาติของท่านปฏิบัติ ดังหะดีษที่เล่าโดยอบู อัยยูบ อัล-อันศอรีย์ เราะฎิยัลลอฮฺ อันฮุ จากท่านรอซูล ศ็อลลัลลอฮฺ อะลัยฮิ วะสัลลัม ว่า “ผู้ใดที่ถือศีลอดในเดือนเราะมะฎอน แล้วเขาได้ถือศีลอดต่ออีกหกวันในเดือนเชาวาล นั่นเสมือนกับว่าเขาได้ถือศีลอดถึงหนึ่งปี” (รายงานโดยมุสลิม 1164)
